Bridging the Gap Update for 2011/12: Understanding Cash Flow Options in the Midst of Deferrals
The problems with charter school cash flow exist because of the mismatch in timing between revenues and expenses. This year, the spring revenue deferrals will be the worst that California charter schools have ever seen. The average school will have 38% of state apportionments pushed into the FY2013 (and inter-year deferrals could increase to over 40% if there are mid-year cuts), so it is imperative to start planning NOW.
The presentation linked below, a resource created in partnership with CCSA, outlines the reasons for the deferrals, provides projected estimates for 2011-12 deferrals, and presents options and alternatives for charter schools to pursue.
